Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)

Washington State Department of Transportation’s mission is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options to improve communities and economic vitality for people and businesses.  WSDOT is embarking on a billion-dollar transport infrastructure project, to be managed and delivered through a new Oracle Cloud platform, using Virtuoso QA’s AI-powered, low-code/no-code software.  Virtuoso was selected following a successful pilot involving automating complex Oracle Primavera Unifier use cases.

The Challenges

WSDOT’s projects will be complex and time-critical accounting for hundreds of millions of dollars in public money, meaning it is vital that the system be validated and configured correctly.

Modernizing WSDOT’s aging mainframe technology infrastructure is a continued focus,  and software testing is an integral part of ensuring quality for WDDOT’s customers. With limited resources and staff, WSDOT needed an automated software testing solution that maximized quality and efficiency, without sacrificing security. A scalable solution was imperative, that involved minimal maintenance to meet the expanding requirements and growing customer needs planned for ongoing future enhancements.  The SDLC is agile, so agility in the test automation solution was a necessity as it would allow WSDOT to perform in sprint test automation.

The Solutions

Virtuoso was the only automated software testing solution that offered a low code, natural language-based platform powered by AI that was hosted in the cloud. and its self-healing features also met WSDOT’s needs for a solution that required minimal maintenance after deployment.

Virtuoso QA’s software will drastically reduce man hours by automating testing that would traditionally take days, or even weeks to complete, meaning that software testing cycles can be run efficiently in a fraction of the time, leading to shorter feedback loops and greater agility without compromising quality.

It will also allow government employees to focus on more core and strategic tasks on an ongoing basis, rather than repetitive manual work such as configuring and testing updates to the system as released by Oracle.

The Results

Regression tests for all Capital Projects business processes and workflows have been deployed and are running on a schedule.  In the past, when the WSDOT team needed to do a regression test, it took 5-10 resources 2-4 weeks. Now with Virtuoso, that time frame has been reduced to days.
